Amos 9:13
“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when the reaper will be overtaken by the ploughman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills.”
Hallelujah!
God’s a God of judgement and also a God of mercy, of righteousness and of grace. Here we read, just as we have read time and time again throughout our journey, that God pronounced judgement and carried it out, but left a remnant.
The flood came, but Noah and his family were saved (see Genesis 7-9). Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed but Lot and his daughters escaped (see Genesis 19). Egypt suffered the plagues and death of the firstborn but the Hebrews were set free and saved (see Exodus 7-12). Jericho was destroyed but Rahab and her family survived (see Joshua 6). So we could go on.
From where do people get the idea that God will not judge the world or that everyone will get into Heaven just because He is a God of love? He has provided the ‘Way of escape’ from His wrath, through personal acceptance and trust in the substitutionary death of His beloved, One and Only Son, Jesus Christ. (See also John 14:6 & 1 Timothy 2:5-6.) This is the only way and if we ignore it, we will reap the reward. But those who put their trust in Him will be saved. (See also Romans 10:9-13.)
Our verse for today speaks of a restored Israel and in a lot of ways, this Scripture has been fulfilled. Go to Israel now and you will see its phenomenal prosperity – especially in the agricultural area.
But I sense there is a spiritual application for us as well. For those of us who have laboured tirelessly to ‘win the lost’, the day is coming, I believe, when the harvest will be so great that even as we sow the ‘Good News’, there will be a tremendous reaping – the like of which has not yet been seen. The response to the Gospel will be overwhelming.
People will be added to the Church daily, just as they were at Pentecost (see Acts 2:47). Families will be re-united; broken marriages restored; and ruined relationships reconciled. Together with which, there will be a phenomenal outpouring of love and the Holy Spirit. (See also Luke 1:12-17.)

It starts with us praying, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven” (Matthew 6:10).
