Haggai 2:6-9
“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and the Desired of all Nations will come, and I will fill this House with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine,’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘The glory of this present House will be greater than the glory of the former House,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”
There is so much in this chapter. (I know we can say that about them all.)
But listen. “I will shake all nations.” That’s a promise. It’s a ‘Ring of Truth’! Why does God say that? Usually that’s the only way He can get our attention.
Yesterday, we saw that at times – indeed often – he uses money to try and get us to ‘wake up’. It’s amazing how finance dominates our lives. We think enough is having a little bit more than we do now.
God will shake everything in your life until you fully realise that He alone is your Security, your Provider and your Life Giver. Isn’t it interesting that as soon as one of our close relatives dies or ends up in hospital through an accident or illness, we are suddenly able and prepared to change our routines? (But not before.)
This material world is so demanding and urgent that the really important eternal issues of life disappear into oblivion. Hey, God will shake you and everything around you until you realise He is Sovereign. He is the Almighty God. He wants your attention.
Yes, He wants it now. Stop, please give Him 5 minutes of your time today. Let Him know that He is important to you. (Maybe some of your shaking will cease, if you do.)
The ‘Desired of all Nations’ will come. Hallelujah! Who is He? Jesus. Jesus is coming back. He will come. Notice He is the “Desired of ALL Nations”. God knows that He is the Answer for all nations, all ethnic groups and all generations for all time and eternity.
Yes, He is “desired” in every nation. In every nation there will be those who desire Him. Are you one?
“I will fill this House with glory.” God’s glory filled the Tabernacle of Moses. Then He chose Solomon’s Temple for the ‘place’ for His Name. Now, He would return once more – forever.
The people were saying that this new temple was nothing like Solomon’s. God replied, ‘My Spirit remains among you… I will fill this house with Glory’. “The Glory of the present House will be greater than the former House.”
Why? Because it’s not the building but the Person. It’s not the body that matters – it’s the anointing. Don’t hold on to the past. It is, by definition, over and gone – now let it go. “Manna” had to be gathered daily (see Exodus 16). No matter how fantastic a past experience was – let it go – God is creative – the next will be even better. Like the wine at Cana (see John 2) – with God, He always keeps the best till last.
The next Temple will be for the return of Christ – not as a Baby but as the King of the Universe.
The Final Glory that we shall see will be totally out of this world and beyond comparison or description.
For we shall see JESUS in ALL the splendour of His Majestic Glory.
