Habakkuk 2:3
“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.”
What is your vision?
This chapter is God’s fantastic reply to Habakkuk and makes thrilling reading.
It starts with the prophet standing “at my watch”. When Jesus endured His final and greatest temptation in the Garden of Gethsemane, He chided his sleeping disciples, “Could you men not keep watch with Me for one hour?” “Watch and pray” (Matthew 26:40-41).
It is a dying art. The Lord encourages us to “Watch and Pray.” We should all be doing it. In a world that seems to be rushing headlong into oblivion, closing in all around us with secular wickedness taking over – we, of all people, need to be alert – watching and praying. Those who “watch and pray” hear from the Lord. They are the ones who receive revelations. How many have you received?
In today’s verse, God reminded the prophet that the revelation was sure. He then told him to write it down and make it plain, so that others could ‘share’ it. It is the same for us. If God has given you a revelation, a vision – write it down, share it with others (the appropriate ones) and then actively wait for it to happen.
Let His Holy Spirit quicken you and your spirit today. It will happen. Just as Habakkuk had to wait, just as David had to wait, just as Joshua had to wait, just as Joseph had to wait, just as Abraham had to wait and just as Noah had to wait – wait.
If it is of God – it will happen. Nothing can stop it. Wait in anticipation of its fulfilment. Don’t be discouraged. Don’t look at the circumstances – look to God. He is the faithful One. But let Him do it and accomplish it in His way and in His time. (Just be open to His progressive ‘nudging’ from time to time.)
We have another nugget in the next verse. “The righteous will live by his faith” (v 4). This is a biblical theme. A ‘Ring of Truth’! Look at Noah (see Genesis 7:1), look at Abraham, and look at Hebrews 11. Righteousness and faith exist hand in hand. Abraham’s faith was “credited to him as righteousness” (Genesis 15:6). (See also Galatians 3:6-9.) The writer to the Hebrews reminds us that, “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). Without it we are unrighteous. But it is active, not passive. It was outworked in their lifestyle – it was NOT just a ‘set of beliefs’. (See also James 2:14-26.)
“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (v 14). Isn’t that exciting? Didn’t you get a chill up your spine as you read it? I did.
One day - yes, one day - we shall see it. Hallelujah!
God concludes it all. “The Lord is in His Holy Temple; let all the earth be silent before Him” (v 20).
When God comes, when we are in His Presence – there is just nothing more to say.
Why not sit in worshipful silence for a few minutes now and let all you have read here sink in.
It’s a ‘Ring of Truth’!
It’s also awesome truth.
