Genesis 6:13

“So God said to Noah, ‘I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.’”

Yes, as I said God is a good God.

This proves it. Firstly, He is going to deal with wickedness. The Fall took place about 1,600 years before this. Cain’s murder of Abel took place about 1,500 years earlier too, so this was hardly rash and impetuous.

But a ‘good’ God, by nature and definition, has to deal with sin and wickedness. If He allowed them to continue, He would not be ‘good’. Even so, He also gave plenty of warning. There was a way of escape – The Ark. As Peter also says, “God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the Ark was being built” (1 Peter 3:20). Noah preached to them during the 100 years it took to build the Ark. But the people refused to listen or change their ways. God has always provided the ‘Way of escape’.

After the Fall, the Sacrifices were introduced to give a covering for Adam’s and Eve’s sin and nakedness. Here God prepares an Ark. Later, He provided a Lamb. They all point to the One John the Baptist saw, and of Whom he said, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).

I always find it strange that those most adamant that God, being good, will allow everyone into Heaven totally ignore the ‘Way’ God has provided to get there. They refuse His Way – Jesus – in preference to their way and end up going to Hell with all the others that they thought should be in Heaven. Their delusion is such that Hell becomes their heaven.

Unfortunately, ignorance is not bliss – for even as our legal system states – “Ignorance of the law is no excuse.” No one in their right mind wants evil to triumph, or indeed the wicked to ‘get away with it’.

In our verse for today, God shows emphatically that they don’t. The timing is not up to us. The method is not up to us. The judgement is not up to us, either – but from this verse alone we can establish 6 things – 6 ‘Rings of Truth’!

1. Evil people will pay for their actions.

2. God is a just God and will judge between the righteous and the wicked.

3. God always gives us the opportunity to be saved – right to the last minute.

4. The choice is always up to us.

5. God will do all He can to save us.

6. The things God says He will do; He will carry out – they are not just idle threats – even if they seem unbelievable or take place outside our expected time-frame.

Watch out – He is coming back to destroy the world.

Jesus said, “As in the days of Noah, so it will be at the Coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day Noah entered the Ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them away. That is how it will be at the Coming of the Son of Man” (Matthew 24:37–39).
