Exodus 40:35

“Moses could not enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled upon it, and the Glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle.”

The people had completed the Tabernacle and erected it.

The people had really got behind the vision. Moses had called for freewill offerings of gold, silver and bronze; blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair, ram skins dyed red; hides of sea cows and the people had brought them. (Where did the people – the slaves from Egypt – get all of them from?) They had also offered their talents – craftsmen, designers, embroiderers and weavers. They all came and willingly donated time and skill.

Moses records that each used their God-given talents and that Bezalel was filled with the Spirit of God for the task. You see, God anoints those He appoints for whatever role. He ordains and it is important we feel free to operate in that call and with that gifting. We are not to compare ourselves with others or try and work out which is the most important – all we are called to do is ‘live in our anointing’. Don’t go outside it or you are doing it in your own strength and that leads to burnout and disaster.

Moses didn’t try to do it all either. He let Bezalel, Oholiah and their teams get on with it. Yes, he gave them the blueprint but then he got out of the way and let them get on with it. He checked up at the end and found that they had done everything he told them.

Maybe that’s a good word for all of us who are leaders – delegate and then don’t meddle. If the Spirit of God is on the leaders – let them get on with it – the Holy Spirit will keep them on track. Yes, we evaluate but if they are doing well, don’t meddle. We have the blueprint; God gives them the detail. Learn from Moses – let go and let them develop their own relationship with God. We are not called to be God’s policeman – that’s the Holy Spirit’s role.

Moses looked at the Tent of Meeting and was going to enter. But when God arrives, there is no room for anyone else. God filled it. It was God’s plan and Moses had completed the work. Now God would set His seal upon it. There is no need for anyone else. Our ‘job’ is to remain silent and worship. (We recently held a Conference for our leaders and God ‘showed up’. We all knew and we all went away thoroughly blessed.)

When God arrives, we must go by His agenda, not ours. When the cloud stays – we stay. When the cloud moves – we move.

Tell me, do you move at the impulse of God or just expect Him to bless your plans?

When God arrives – let Him do what He wants.

Our role is just to ‘Watch and worship.’ (See also 2 Chronicles 5:13–14.)
