Daniel 12:1
“At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people – everyone whose name is found written in the Book – will be delivered.”
The Archangel Michael.
First the messenger, Gabriel, now the Commander, Michael.
Daniel concludes with a picture/prophecy of the end of time, as we know it. In verse 2, he alludes to the fact that there will be a ‘Great Resurrection’. After which there will be a Judgement that will separate people – either for eternal Life or for eternal Hell.
Jesus refers to a similar scene in Matthew.
First, in Chapter 24, He refers to Daniel 9 and then He says, “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, He will sit on His throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats” (Matthew 25:31).
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life” (v 46).
In John’s Revelation, he writes –
“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who was seated upon it.”
“And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the Throne and the Books were opened. Another Book was opened, which is the Book of Life.”
“The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done” (20:11; 12 & 13).
“If anyone’s name was not found written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire” (v 15).
John then goes on to describe the New Jerusalem and the final bliss and destiny for the righteous (see Revelation 21:1-4).
The ‘Ring of Truth’ throughout Scripture is that there is a war going on between Good and evil. We all make choices between the two. We are responsible for our decisions and in the end, a final Judgement takes place. Everything we do and think is recorded and we are accountable for every entry.
If we accept responsibility and make Jesus Christ, the Son of God, our Saviour and Redeemer, we become righteous and all our sin is laid upon Him and taken away. Our names are written in the Book of Life and we are then destined to live with Him forever in the New Jerusalem (see Revelation 21:27).
If we reject Him, there is no other Saviour, and so we stand ‘on our own’ and are judged accordingly. Our names are missing from the Book of Life and consequently, we will end up with Satan and Death in Hell, the Lake of Fire, for eternity (see Revelation 20:15).
There is only one way of escape. To have our names written in the Book of Life. The only way we can have our names entered is by accepting Jesus as our personal Saviour. Is your name written in the Book of Life?
You know if it is.
If it isn’t there yet – please stop right now, and ask Jesus to forgive you for all that you have done wrong and to come into your life by His Spirit, so that you can know that God’s Wrath, Hell and the Lake of Fire are no longer your destiny because your name is written in the Book of Life.
