Judges 4:9
I WILL GO WITH YOU BUT THE HONOUR WILL NOT BE YOURS
The Lord is like that too sometimes.
He has His best for us and we choose second best. Actually, did you know that second best is sin? God tells us and invites us to be part of His plan, and we make excuses so He has to back down. The Almighty God backs down!
How very foolish we are so often. But, yes, He allows us to say - NO. You see He doesn't want robots. He seeks people to serve Him out of love and devotion.
So often I hear Christians who want God to 'command' them to do something before they'll do anything. Or they won't do it until God 'tells them to.' I believe God actually wants us to get to know Him so well that He doesn't have to 'command' us to do anything. God loved Moses and spoke to him as a man speaks to his friend 'face to face'. You don't 'command' friends - you don't even need to 'ask' those who are intimate - they already 'know'.
"Okay, Barak have it your way, but (I'm sorry) the honour will not be yours. You'll be involved in 'all the hard work' but the 'honour' won't be yours. This could have been your victory, Barak!"
Maybe God was testing him to see if he could take over from Deborah as judge. "Oh Barak, why won't you just do what God asked you to do without question? Why must it always be on 'your terms' and in 'your way'?"
What about you? Do you always want to make the conditions and have them all sorted out and 'in order' before you agree to anything? Or are you one who always misses the best and goes for second best?
