October Topic: Grace |
As it is not until we have a deep appreciation of what GRACE is and means, that we really come into the full liberty in Christ that we have been purchased to experience, let's take this month to explore some of its depths and treasures. |
Romans 4:25
HE WAS DELIVERED OVER TO DEATH FOR OUR SINS AND RAISED FOR OUR JUSTIFICATION
Amazing isn't it! Both Christ's death and resurrection were for our benefit!
How can anyone say that God is NOT for us? God is an awesome God of Love. He has literally done all He possibly can to save us from His Holy wrath against sin, wickedness and evil, and above all that to restore us to that perfect union, that intimate relationship with Himself.
We were destined to suffer God's wrath because of our independence, rebellion, selfishness and pride - but Jesus bore all that penalty in our place at Calvary on the Cross. It was our sin and unrighteousness; our stubbornness and the evil intents of our hearts that Jesus had to pay for - not for His own. It defies understanding, doesn't it? Jesus, the Perfect one, became imperfect, became sin, and became evil for us.
Have you ever asked yourself, why? Why didn't God just start all over again? Oh yes, I realise He tried with Noah. Abraham was a bright spot, as was David, but really the human race was not getting any better. So why not stop, call it a day and start all over again? However we rationalise it or spiritualise it away - we still have to come back to one word. GRACE. Amazing grace. He only had a 'Plan A'!
But Calvary was only part of the plan of redemption. There had to be a Nazareth and a Bethlehem before there could even be a Calvary. But it couldn't just stop there either. There had to be an Empty Tomb; there had to be an Ascension.
The Plan of Redemption was not just to forgive us but to completely justify us as well. To bring us back to the place that was lost to us by Adam. That place of open, intimate loving relationship with God - the created communing with the Creator. Jesus had to be raised to complete the work, but it was NOT FOR HIM. IT WAS FOR YOU AND ME!
We were the ones who needed Jesus to be raised from the dead, so that we could be restored, totally freed from sin and its consequences, and more than that, to be restored as if we had never sinned in the first place.
This is as John Newton wrote - Amazing Grace!
