Philippians 3:10
THAT I MAY KNOW HIM AND THE POWER OF HIS RESURRECTION
The first time the Lord really challenged me with this verse, I was visiting a young people's Bible Study in South London.
I shall never forget it. We read the passage and suddenly one of the young people asked - "How can I know the resurrection power of God in my life?" Immediately the Holy Spirit replied through me - "you can't until you die!"
You see, it's a fundamental fact of life - the Christian life anyway. You will never know the resurrection power of God in your life until you die!
We have to come to the cross, admit our sin and failure and confess our unworthiness, shame and total dependence upon Jesus and then "die" to ourselves.
Die to our selfishness and independence. Die to our ambitions. Die to our possessions. Die to our arrogance and pride. Die to our self-centredness and self-gratification. Die to our self-satisfaction. Die to our own achievements, success and significance. Die to our will and then take up the life of a "living sacrifice".
Yes, you will only ever know the power of His resurrection if you die. And the amount of His resurrection power in us is in direct proportion to the amount we are prepared to die and stay dead!
As Paul says, "we have to die daily that the resurrection power of God might flow through us."
Yes, it can happen!
And listen - the resurrection power of God is dynamite! Nothing can hinder it, nothing can delay it, nothing stand in its way; no fear can affect us; no power of the enemy can have any hold over us; but they must go - must flee, before the resurrection power of Jesus.
