THE MAN WHO PERSEVERES UNDER TRIAL ... WILL RECEIVE THE CROWN OF LIFE
When he has stood the test...
How have you done persevering with me this month? Has it seemed a long hard month? Be encouraged the end is in sight! And what an End! Do you remember David's mighty men? One of them, Jashobeam - killed 300 men in one encounter. Benaiah went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. Afterwards he went and killed an Egyptian 7'6" tall with the Egyptian's own spear because all he had was a club! "They were brave warriors, ready for battle and able to handle the shield and spear. Their faces were the faces of lions and they were as swift as gazelles in the mountains." 1 Chronicles 11/12.
Like to be around them? They are my kind of guys. Well, I'm not in their league but I'd like to call them friends, wouldn't you? They persevered to make David king. They stood the test because they 'believed in their King'. They received their reward. Maintaining David's Kingdom!
What about you? What about me? What about us? Are we more interested in our kingdom, our safety, our security, our significance, our self-worth, than in the worth of Jesus Christ, who alone can give us all these things and the crown of life?
Let's get the true perspective. Our life on this planet is a mere passing phase - yes, an important one, but it is a training ground only, for what is to come. It is so brief, at best, compared to what is to follow. Our brief trials will pass - our Eternal Life will never pass away. The things of this earth will be swept away - but Heaven is everlasting. The insults of men are fleeting - the Word of the Lord stands forever. Yes, we can help bring down the Kingdom of God to earth - by letting Jesus live in and through us here and now. That, in itself, is reward enough.
But listen - if and when we have stood the test... Oh, my friend - don't drop out of the race. Don't give up when the end is in sight. Don't lose heart, when the King is so close. For He brings with Him the crown of life for you - your very own.
