April Topic: CHRIST'S RESURRECTION |
This is what sets Christianity apart from all other religions. You cannot build up a lasting meaningful relationship with someone who is dead! That is why Christianity is NOT a religion. We have a unique relationship with God's One & Only Son who is Alive today and for evermore. That is a meaningful relationship! Come; let's remind ourselves about what happened... |
Luke 24:6
HE IS NOT HERE FOR HE IS RISEN
I'm not a fan of funerals.
I'm an emotional person. I don't know how to stop loving someone I have begun to love. The death of any of my family, friends or acquaintances may release them from pain and transport them to glory, but it is hard on me. My joy takes a knock, and it seems a little bit of me dies with them. In a lot of ways that's why I'd rather go first, I guess!
However, I remember going to the funeral of a great man of God who had been one of the elders of the Church I attended as a young man. He had been someone with vision and had helped release me into Ministry. At his funeral, another of my Christian mentors read this verse. Instead of relating it solely to Jesus and His resurrection, he turned to the coffin and said, "he is not here for he is risen."
You see the Power and Glory of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is ours too! As soon as we die, we leave our body. "We" are not buried at a funeral - we don't even attend! No, our bodies are "our vehicles" to get from place to place. But the real you and me will be gone - we will have "risen"!
One of the privileges we have had was to go to Israel, which is always an unforgettable experience. If you go into the Garden Tomb property in Jerusalem, you can "see Golgotha" and the Tomb. Of course, the tomb is empty - the stone is rolled away - but on the wooden door to the tomb is written a sign. It simply says, "He is not here, for He is risen".
Whether the "Garden Tomb" in Jerusalem is authentic or not, to me makes no difference. Jesus died, was buried, and on the resurrection morning, the stone was rolled away - not to let Jesus out - but to show to all mankind forever that He is not here for He has risen.
There, forever, He has sealed our fate! All those of us who die in Christ can have said of us at our funeral too "they are not here for they are risen!"
