Genesis 1:31
“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning – the sixth day.”
Whatever we may think, God is the great Initiator. It is important that we never forget that. It is also important that we understand the fundamental fact, that God is a good God. Every day ended with God looking and seeing that everything that He had created was good. He imparted of His nature into creation – making it good, as He is good.
God put Adam and Eve in Paradise to enjoy it forever. They did enjoy it for a while. Just imagine it – The Garden Of Eden – in all its pristine glory. They had no fear, no embarrassments, no pain, no sickness and no evil, but an open intimate relationship with each other and with God.
As you begin this year, reassess your view of God. Do you really see Him as a good God or a killjoy? A distant merciless Judge or an intimate and loving Heavenly Father?
Don’t let the enemy con you. The Creator God initiated your life and has good plans for you to fulfil, which He will help you achieve if you let Him.
Surely none of us can deny that we live in a beautiful world. Despite man’s pollution and devastation of the earth’s natural resources – leaving behind deserts instead of forests, slag heaps where he has mined the coal and ores, and concrete instead of farmland – our natural world still thrills us by its awesome beauty.
Even as I write this, I am sitting under canvas in a huge paddock looking out across the gorse to a line of sand dunes stretching for the whole length of the cream-coloured beach. The bay is defined by two headlands, about 10 km apart. To the left is the huge peninsula extending to North Cape and Cape Reinga; the northernmost point in New Zealand where the Tasman Sea meets the South Pacific, and to my right is Cape Karikari pointing out to its own little group of small islands. The sun is shining on the azure blue sea and it’s been like this for a week already.
Yes. God created a good world for you and me to enjoy, whether or not we even consider Him. As Paul says – If He “did not spare His own Son (Jesus), but gave Him up for us all – how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things (to deeply and thoroughly enjoy)?” (Romans 8:32)
Remember that as you start the year. It’s a ‘Ring of Truth’!
You will never ‘out-give’ God, which not only makes Him a good God – but One worth following and serving.
