Revelation 22:12-14
“Behold, I AM coming soon! My reward is with Me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the Tree of Life and may go through the gates into the City.”
What a way to end the year!
We’ve come full circle.
The Triune God was there in the beginning; the Triune God is still there at the end. The Tree of Life was in the Garden of Eden; the Tree of Life is in the City – the New Jerusalem.
We’ve come full circle in our year too. As we close December and the year, I trust that you have gained a deeper understanding of the plan and purposes of God. His unconditional, unmerited love for you. His plans for you, which are “to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
I hope you have understood even more clearly why Jesus came, why He died, why He rose again, why He ascended to the right hand of the Majesty on high and why one day soon He will return for those who earnestly seek His coming.
Why and how He has longed for, not only us as individuals, to love Him, but also for a ‘people’ who would be “Sold Out for Jesus” – and become His special possession – the People of God – the Bride of Christ. How He takes us just as we are, and as we allow Him, He moulds us and changes us so that we become more and more like Jesus – His One and Only beloved Son.
How, through His Holy Spirit, He showers us with goodness, kindness, spiritual blessings and gifts which enable us to enjoy Eternal Life now, and give us a taste and guarantee of what is to come. How He is an extravagant God in all His ways. In Creation, in salvation and in redemption. He has left nothing out, for to do so would suggest He is not God.
As you look back over your year, I wonder what you see. Disappointment, frustration, fear and pain or success, victory, peace and joy? Maybe a mixture of all those emotions. But you need to let them all go. The good, the bad and the ugly. Close the door, remembering as you do so, that no matter what the circumstances and experiences were, God was faithful through them all.
As you face the coming year, how do you feel? Excited to start with a clean sheet, brimming with positive expectation, or apprehensive about the unknown? Listen, you can do no better than to put your hand into the Hand of God and allow Him to lead and guide you into the future and remember this – He always takes one step and one day at a time. Just as with Creation, He looks back on each day and each year and sees that all that He has done is good.
God, the Great “I AM [is still] the Alpha and Omega; [He is still] the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” He calls to you again today – “Come with Me. Let Me be your Guide, your Shepherd, your Saviour, Your Protector, Your Healer, Your Provider and Your Friend. I will never stop loving you, and I will never leave you nor forsake you. Indeed, I am coming soon so that you can be where I AM for evermore in total unreserved joy.”
Will you let Him?
Close your eyes, hold out your hand and let Him take hold of it again.
Thank you for coming with me through the year. Can I close by saying how much I have enjoyed sharing these simple thoughts with you and seeing the ‘Ring of Truth’ revealed?
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make His face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;
The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”
(Numbers 6:24)
Today and always. AMEN.
I’m really looking forward to meeting you and spending Eternity with you.
(So is Jesus – only even more.)
Until then, “May the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you” (2 Corinthians 13:14).
And may He keep you in the hollow of His hand and in the centre of His will.
Maranatha!
