Micah 4:2-5
“Many nations will come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the House of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways, so that we may walk in His paths.’ The Law will go out from Zion, the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Every man will sit under his own vine and under his own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the Lord Almighty has spoken. All the nations may walk in the name of their gods; we will walk in the Name of the Lord our God for ever and ever.”
This is both a forth-telling and a foretelling.
It is the Word of the Lord and it is yet to take place. Yesterday, we saw the mountains melting like wax. Today, the Mountain of the Lord’s Temple will be established and raised up above the hills.
I don’t know about you, but as soon as I read these verses, there comes a joy, an excitement within my spirit that not only witnesses to the truth but also the expectation that it is yet to take place and I shall see it with my own eyes. Maybe even within my earthly lifetime.
The wheel is a beautiful picture of the Kingdom. Visualise if you will an old cartwheel. Wooden with spokes, a tyre circumference and solid hub. The tyre engulfs the people who are represented by the spokes and the hub is, of course, God – The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The closer we (the spokes) get to God (the hub), the closer we get to one another.
Consequently, the higher we raise Christ, the less we want to judge or criticise our brothers and sisters. Indeed the higher the mountain of the Temple of God is raised, the less the desire for war and the greater the desire for peace.
When that happens, it is only natural that we will put down our swords and spears and turn them into agricultural implements for the cultivation of peace and prosperity. We will no longer need to train for war, but instead enjoy perfect rest and everlasting peace.
How can this be? Is it not just wishful thinking or a pipe dream? No, my friends, this is the Word of the Lord. It will take place. Maybe not today or tomorrow but it will one day.
Look up, my friend, look up. Our watching and waiting is not in vain. One day the clouds of adversity will have a Passenger. The Lord Himself will come in the clouds – with all His angels with Him.
Wow! Can you imagine what it will be like? The Lord will arrive in all His glory, majesty and splendour.
Watch out, my friend, keep alert, for “in the last days the Mountain of the Lord’s Temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills and the peoples will stream to it” (v 1).
As they used to say in the past – ‘gird up your loins.’ In other words – Be prepared – Be ready – it will happen.
Then we will really begin to understand what God had in fact planned right from the very beginning.
Why not just spend a moment praising God in anticipation of the event?
Oh, by the way – What else do you need to do to make yourself ready?
