Some trust in chariots and some in horses but we trust in the Name of our God.
I shall never forget when the Lord called me to give up my successful career in banking to be part of a pioneer ‘faith’ ministry where no promises, guarantees or salary were on offer.
Well, you can’t expect these when you come in on the ground floor. I was criticised, because here I was giving up a ‘secure’ very well paid job for ‘nothing’, except a vision and hope, when I had a fabulous wife and three lovely children and a property with a large mortgage in London. During those early pioneering days, this verse became very real to us.
Where is your ‘security’? In your job; your family; your finances and investments; your future or in your health? There is nothing wrong whatsoever with any of these things, provided they don’t become your security. Yes, I didn’t say ‘god’; I said security – they can be your security long before they come anywhere near becoming your gods, but be very careful.
May I encourage you? If any of these have become your security, watch out. God has a habit of proving to us that we can find security only in one place. In Him, and in Him alone.
If you had been me, which would you have held on to – a British Clearing Bank – one of the ‘Big 4’, or would you launch out and trust the Creator God, King of the Universe? I believe there are many Christians in the world today who, as yet, have never really answered this question. But, either God is all in all in your life or you are missing out. If I am honest, I have to say that I am not at the same level of risk-taking today as I was then – sometimes I miss it – because then it was totally riveting.
We are all existentialists at heart – we want the soft option; the ‘safe’ even if it ‘captivates’ us, and we long for out.
God wants to challenge us again today. Which will you trust? Do you want a life of excitement, fulfilment and joy and have to trust God fully or will you stay as you are – a victim of work pressures, under the circumstances, or bowed down by the forces that squeeze you into this world’s mould?
Whether you believe it or not – The choice is yours.
Try and find time today to work through your answer. Don’t pass this opportunity by.
You can change – God is still worthy of all our trust.
