Job 42:10
After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord made him prosperous again and gave him twice as much as he had before.
The reason why we ‘hang in’ there.
God told Eliphaz, “I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has” (42:7). He told them to go and take a sacrifice to Job who would pray for them and God would forgive them and not deal with them according to their folly. They did; Job prayed for them, and his prayer was accepted.
Everyone who had known Job came and consoled him and brought him gold and silver. He lived a further 140 years, had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 2,000 oxen, and 1,000 donkeys.
He also had another 7 sons and 3 daughters. They were the most beautiful women in the land and he gave each of them the same inheritance as his sons. He died of old age.
I believe, we see here, that God was indeed delighted with Job. Yes, he was human with a human and imperfect understanding of God but he had maintained his integrity and had walked upright before God. What happened to him was not because of sin or unrighteousness - but, as we shall see later regarding a man born blind - it was for the glory of God (see John 9:1-3).
Satan lost. Satan lost the battle over Job. God proved through Job that money, prestige, power and health are not prerequisites for people to love Him. Indeed, He proved that all the material riches that even Satan might be able to produce would never answer the needs of the human heart.
On the contrary, the needs of the human heart are truly satisfied only by a living intimate relationship with God, its Creator. Strip off all the trimmings and the spirit of man linked to the Spirit of God is totally indestructible.
It is eternal and as we saw before - Destroy this body, yet in our flesh, on the last day - we shall see God.
And we can shout at every adversity and challenge before us today -
“I know that my Redeemer lives - so - get out of the way”!
We may not see the restitution of all our material wealth but we can still know that one day all this will pass and the best is yet to come.
We need to keep our eyes focused on Heaven and our final eternal destiny.
