Jude 24-25
“To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious Presence without fault and with great joy – to the only God our Saviour be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.”
Read that again. What a terrific ‘Christmas Present’.
How do you feel now?
This is one of the most dramatic promises of the whole of Scripture and comes from one of Jesus’ half-brothers. Yes, he had come to know Jesus for who He really is. No longer as a ‘different’ sibling, but now as Messiah, Christ and Lord.
But do you notice the ‘Ring of Truth’ here? The ‘Ring of Truth’ is that God is the Author, the Initiator, the Saviour, the Keeper, the Presenter and the Welcomer.
You see, God’s plan is that He would do it all. He chose Abraham before he was asked to ‘sacrifice’ Isaac (see Genesis 12 & 22). He redeemed Israel from Egypt before any ‘conditions’ (The 10 Commandments) were placed upon them (see Exodus 3:8 & Exodus 20). He came and saved us without any conditions being placed upon us – the only stipulation necessary is “look and live” – “believe” and trust “in Him” (see Numbers 21:8 & John 3:14 –16).
God will not force Himself upon us – but Christ is the Saviour of the world – especially when we choose to believe it and accept it for ourselves (see 1 Timothy 4:10). I can’t do it for you and you can’t do it for anyone else. Yes, we can plead and pray but they have to make the choice.
Jude said, “To Him who is able …” Yes, Jesus is able. He is totally capable … but we have to ask. This verse reminds me of what David said, “The Lord is my Shepherd” (Psalm 23). David was able to boast about this Reality in his life. He does it in such a way that it is a challenge to us. Is the Lord your Shepherd?
Jude says something of equal importance, and with a similar challenge.
“[He]… is able to keep you from falling …” But have you asked Him?
“He is able to keep you from falling…” (over and over again) – not just pick you up.
Notice there is more – there is always so much more with God. He doesn’t just save us – “[He] redeems your life from the pit and (He) crowns you with love and compassion” (Psalm 103:4).
He can “present you before His Glorious Presence…” – His Father. He can’t do that unless you accept Him as your Lord. But He can do it and will if you love and serve Him.
More than that – He can do it – “without fault.” You see, He won’t present us as we see ourselves or as we are. He will present us as He sees us after He has made us perfect. “In Christ” (see Ephesians 1).
But there is even more. He will do it – “with great joy”. Not with shame and/or embarrassment. But “With great joy.”
“Who for the joy set before Him endured the Cross, scorning its shame” (Hebrews 12:2).
“He will see the fruit of the travail of His soul and be satisfied” (Isaiah 53:11 RSV). Yes, when He presents us to His Father, it will be “with great joy.”
Isn’t that terrific? What grace.
Tell me, have you asked Him? If not – why not do it now?
If you have – take time out now to thank Him for all His tremendous love and grace.
(P.S. And don’t forget to tell others – He can do it for them, too.)
