Revelation 7:9-10
“After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the Throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: ‘Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the Throne, and to the Lamb.’”
Awesome, eh?
In the Auckland Domain, New Zealand, 300,000 people joined together for a free secular open-air concert. In Seoul, South Korea, 1,000,000 people gathered for a prayer meeting. Both events were awe-inspiring. But may I suggest that neither got anywhere near what we are talking about here. This defies our calculation, comprehension, or even Hollywood’s best creative illusions and imagination.
And yet this is the true Reality. This is Heaven. This is the time which is coming ever nearer, when we shall all be gathered together – when the ‘roll is called up yonder’. We shall voluntarily, joyfully, excitedly, and deliberately gather together for the start of the greatest praise time ever.
John had no hope of being able to count the number; it was so vast. Yes, I believe there will be far more people in Heaven than in Hell, because “in everything He [Christ] might have the supremacy” (Colossians 1:18). What a pity we have cheapened our language – because this will indeed be truly ‘Awesome’.
Can you imagine it? Have a go. Millions upon millions upon millions of people. Yes, billions. From every continent and island – Middle Eastern, African, Asian, South American, Australian, Kiwi, Pacific Islanders, North American, British, European and from all the other Islands of the oceans. All together in unity and harmony. Mind blowing, isn’t it?
Yet they are there because of one thing and one thing alone – “Salvation belongs to Our God, who sits on the Throne and to the Lamb.”
Do you see the ‘Ring of Truth’ showing again? The Plan was God’s, the initiation was God’s, the outworking of it was God’s, and the culmination is God’s – And The Lamb. They did it together. It was a Triune plan. Birthed in the Spirit and revealed to us by the Lamb, the Son.
We had nothing to do with it – all we have to do is accept it. You see, God is a God of love. He has opened up the way to Heaven for everyone and many have obviously availed themselves of it. People from every nation, every ethnic group and every dialect. They all have one theme. Not themselves any more but God and the Lamb.
Why are they wearing white robes? Because white speaks of purity - “they have washed their robes and made them white in the Blood of the Lamb” (v 14). These are the only acceptable garments. We cannot wear our own, for as Isaiah tells us, although they represent our righteous acts – “[they] are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6).
The cry goes out again, today –
“Are you washed in the Blood of the Lamb?”
“Are your garments spotless, are they white as snow?”
If not, they can be today.
God loves you so much – He wants you to be and has made the way open for you to be a part of that praising throng. Will you be there?
If you don’t know for sure, ask Him to forgive you now. Ask Him to save you and give you His Spirit and the assurance that one day soon you will be among that great throng of people.
If you are due to be there – don’t let the pleasures or cares of this world dim the great expectation, but allow it to keep you pure, ‘on fire for God’, ‘Sold out for Jesus’ and diligent in sharing the ‘Good News’ with those who don’t know it or haven’t heard it. They won’t be there unless they hear it and accept it.
Ask God to put their names on your heart now and to give you the opportunity to reach them for His glory and the extension of His Kingdom – so the number will be complete.
