Revelation 21:1-4
“Then I saw a New Heaven and a New Earth, for the first heaven and first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God, prepared as a Bride beautifully dressed for her Husband. And I heard a loud Voice from the Throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’”
“All change!” – used to be the cry as the train or bus came into the Terminus.
It will happen. “The old order [will pass] away” and give way to the new. And know this – when the New Order comes, it will never be defiled and it will never pass away.
Those who can’t understand why God would allow anything or anyone to foul up His creation will find that when the New Heaven and New Earth are established – He won’t. Sin, death, disease and destruction will have all been dealt with before the New Heaven and New Earth appear and only good, pure and righteous beings will enter in. (For the fate of Satan, the beast, the false prophet, Death and Hades and how they are finally and eternally dealt with – see Chapter 20.)
The only way into the “New Heaven” will be by wearing white robes washed in the Blood of the Lamb. Nothing you or I can or will ever do will be adequate to pay the price or give us the right to enter. We go in solely on the merit of the Lamb of God who loved us and gave Himself for us. It is through God’s grace and God’s grace alone. (See also Revelation 1:5-6.)
He created the world through His grace. He created us by His grace. He sent Jesus to die for us through His grace and He saved us through His grace. He will resurrect us through His grace, He will glorify us through His grace and He will accept us by His grace. Through that same grace, He will present us back to Jesus as a spotless Bride – a “New Jerusalem” to the Bridegroom – who is none other than Jesus Christ, His Son, the Word Incarnate, the Lamb that was slain now revealed as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
If you want to study these verses in more depth – you may want to read my other book, “Sold Out For Jesus” as I looked at them during May. This time I will limit myself to reaffirming the ‘Ring of Truth’, which we have seen so eloquently displayed throughout Scripture.
God has always longed for a deep, loving and reciprocated relationship with us, His creation. That is why He made the world in the first place. Why He placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden – so He could walk with them, talk to them, spend time with them and commune with them and they with Him. Now, all that Adam lost has been regained and much more.
We will enjoy that ecstasy that comes from the most intimate relationship of all – marriage. Eternal, uniquely intimate, thoroughly satisfying, unconditional giving and receiving physical communication.
God will dwell with us and we will dwell with Him, with no limit, or fear, guilt, insecurity or mistrust. Yes, this will be the New Order.
“There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain” either. Life’s ultimate destiny.
No wonder it is called “a New Heaven and a New Earth.”
Jesus deserves a spotless, radiant Bride (see Ephesians 5:25-27 & Revelation 19:7-8).
