Isaiah 65:17
“Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.”
Yet another ‘Ring of Truth’!
We come to the end of June and the end of Isaiah, although I hate to.
I love Isaiah. It is a place of constant joy and refreshment. I hope you have enjoyed this part of your journey and that you have been encouraged by what you have read and experienced and will want to return frequently.
Isaiah also brings us to the end of this world. It is good to remember that this world is temporary – it is wearing out and will be replaced by something infinitely greater and more wonderful.
I often think of my younger days and how we used to talk of everlasting life rather than Eternal Life. There is a difference. Everlasting life just goes on and on. Eternal Life is Life in a completely new dimension, which never ends and just gets better and better.
If you ask unchurched people if they would like everlasting life, they would probably decline. Let’s be real. Who in their right mind would want to carry on as they are for the rest of their existence? No one. But Eternal Life – now that’s something else completely. The dynamic of the Creator God living within me here and now? Yes, please.
God is the Creator of Heaven and Earth – therefore, it is His prerogative to end this era whenever He chooses and He has the power to do it all over again. He has the power to “create new heavens and a new earth.” This we find totally mind-blowing.
How can we, earth-bound finite creatures, understand or visualise a new earth and new heavens created by the Infinite, Divine God? All we can say is – Let it be so. Amen.
Yes, this earth will pass away and with it all we know about the universe and creation. Yes, we are living in exciting times where so much we rely on and which forms our security is being shaken in preparation for the greatest change this world has ever seen. Yet through it all, there is security.
God remains faithful. God is still love. God can still be trusted. Find your security in Him, and in Him alone, and you will have nothing to fear.
Something else, too – His Word will never pass away nor will it alter. It is a sure foundation for your life – for the present – the near future – the long term and forever.
God is a relational Being. Your relationship with Him is totally secure. He has given us His Holy Spirit to be with us forever.
As Paul says, “Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance…” and His Word, in us, is eternally true (Ephesians 1:13–14).
Hold on tight – the best is yet to come and will cause the present to disappear into total insignificance.
Yes. Watch, pray and hold on tight to God.
