STRIKE THE ROCK ... IS THE LORD AMONG US OR NOT?
One of the things which I love about Christianity, is that it is real.
God is a real God and He is "big enough" to be tested. So often as Christians we seem to want to apologise for our God, what He says or what He expects. But I've found "He is big enough to look after Himself"!
We used to sing a hymn which began - Prove Him ... I love it, because any time someone who doesn't know God humbly and honestly says, "If You are God prove it to me" He does!
I love saying that to unsaved people I meet. Don't go on in ignorance, don't go on wondering, don't go on speculating, don't go on doubting - put God to the test. And how many stories there are from folk who have done just that.
But you say - we shouldn't "test God". Quite right. But God is Sovereign, let Him determine whether that person's request is genuine and whether He will respond or not. As I said before - He is big enough to cope!
What about you and me? We who have already "tasted and seen that the Lord is good", can we "prove" Him to? Moses did here, for the Children of Israel. Gideon did with his fleece. Elisha did with Elijah's cloak. So I guess we can too. Why? "Because God is big enough!"
Hey, let's get real - He knows my thoughts anyway. So my testing is really only an outworking of my thoughts, which He already knows. Look at Peter. Jesus loved Him and chose Him to "lead" the disciples. If ever anyone "tested" Jesus it was Peter. Jesus saw in Peter someone who may "challenge" Him, but at least he was real, believed what he saw and eventually knew his God and served Him.
What about you? Can I respectfully say to you "Prove Him"?
Prove Him to be among you today and throughout this year. You might even find streams of living water start to spring up from within you!
