JUST AS YOU RECEIVED CHRIST JESUS AS LORD, CONTINUE TO LIVE IN HIM
Stop struggling!
This, for me, is where so many Christians seem to become disillusioned and miss the point. Once I've become a child of God, through repentance and faith, I then start living for Jesus. I want to do things for Him. I want to live the Christian life to the full and in perfection.
I have a highly developed sense of sin, the awesomeness of hell, and urgency to tell everyone they need Jesus. I realise their lives are meaningless. On top of that I become acutely aware of all the suffering in the world.
The sick in my street. The homeless in the cities. The victims of pornography, prostitution, rape and drug abuse. The violence in the schools and crime on the streets. The lonely behind closed doors. The devastating effects of earthquakes, volcanoes, monsoons, floods, wars and famines. Abortion killing millions around the world. The injustice of society and the moral decline exacerbated by the economic philosophy driven by money as god.
And I end up as a shivering heap on the floor! What's gone wrong? Aren't all these things true? Isn't Christianity the antidote? Isn't Jesus the answer to these? Then the cry goes up "I can't live the Christian life any more".
That my friend is exactly it. I cannot live the Christian life. There is only One who can and His name is Jesus! Do you get the point?
How did you receive Jesus as Lord? Did you contribute anything to it? Or did you say "God! I've made an absolute mess of my life - I've tried going on my own and it ends in disaster. Help me, I can't go on any longer on my own. Please forgive me, come into my life and take over completely." Sound familiar?
Well, that is how you LIVE the Christian life, too! Get out of the way and let Jesus, by His Holy Spirit, live out His life through you. You will never be able to do it in your own strength - so move over - let Him take over the controls and you sit back and become the passenger.
But what about all those needs? Well, you've just admitted you can't answer them all so give them to God. He is big enough to cope - you aren't. When on earth, Jesus could also only be in one place at a time; speak to one person intimately at a time - and He lived a perfect life. You'll never do better!
For Jesus, the key was to do what His Father asked Him to do and only that. As you received Christ Jesus as Lord continue to live in Him in total dependence on Him alone!
Just DO what He asks you to do!
