God's promises are sure! Let's spend this month, the last of the year, reminding ourselves that His promises are sure and certain, and then let's become a grateful people! |
Psalm 134:1
PRAISE THE LORD, ALL YOU SERVANTS OF THE LORD
Are you a servant of the Lord?
How can you tell? Easy - how do you react when you are asked to serve?! Do you object to being 'taken for granted'?; being taken advantage of?; given the 'humble' or 'dirty' jobs?; being left to 'get on with it' week after week with no acknowledgment let alone encouragement, thanks or praise? Do you get resentful, hurt, jealous, bitter or callous?
A servant serves! A servant has no rights. A servant obeys without question and without expecting a reward be it physical, emotional or tangible. A servant keeps on regardless of encouragement, for as Jesus pointed out even when you have done all your Master requires, you should still reply "we are but unworthy servants, we have only done our duty." Luke 17:10
These servants appear to be what some would call the clergy (the 'paid' church staff leaders), the Levites. Maybe, today it would be broader and include the 'ministers, priests, pastors, elders, deacons, worship leaders, Sunday School teachers, Cell Group Leaders, Board etc. etc. etc.' Those who have the 'call of God' on their lives. Those who are spending a lot of time 'in church' or on 'church related matters'. If that is you, may I challenge you - How good is your serve?
Chuck Swindoll wrote a book called "Improving your serve" - it was not about tennis! I would encourage you to try and obtain a copy, read it and put it into practise! It helps clarify our motivations and servanthood! I don't like admitting that I have read it, because then people can ask - then why don't you DO IT? (The Gospel of Matthew has a similar effect on me!)
Can a pastor, minister, worship leader serve God for the wrong motives; with the wrong heart attitude; for the wrong reasons; out of duty, and with only a 'form' of worship? Too right! Can't we all? We are all human.
But we are all called to be a 'Kingdom of Priests.' We should all worship and praise our God with the right motives and the right heart attitude.
Once again let me ask you - How good is your serve?
Come on, folks - Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord - Lift up YOUR hands in His Sanctuary.
And may He richly bless you as you constantly serve Him in love.
