February Topic: WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING |
This month I want us to look at why we are still on earth! We are not in Heaven yet - we are destined to go there - and many of us would like to go there quickly (be it to escape the present, be released from the pain experienced on earth or just out of an overwhelming desire to "be with Jesus"). So why can't we go there straight away once we have become a Christian? Maybe there is still something for me to do or become on earth. Let's together have a look at what we are here for... |
Isaiah 6:8
HERE AM I, SEND ME!
I think there are a lot of Christians waiting to have the same "vision" that Isaiah had before they are prepared to say "Here am I, send me!"
And yet, today, we not only have 2,000 years of Church history and Christian heritage behind us, but also the Holy Scriptures in our own language, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
May I simply ask "what more do you want?"
"Why?" Some suggest that they are "not good enough". We saw yesterday that that is an inadequate reply. If we have the "Spirit of Jesus" how can we not be good enough? If God has created you, planned out your life for you before you were born, never left you nor forsaken you, given you His gifts and anointing for the "role" He has destined for you to play - what more can He do?
Surely it is pure selfishness to keep it all to yourself and not be prepared to go?
But God hasn't called me to go - I hear someone say. Hasn't he? Oh, people talk of "hearing from God" but He never seems "to speak to me like that". Fair enough, but what about the Bible - the Word of God - He speaks through that doesn't He?
The cry from heaven is still "who shall I send and who will go for us?" But Isaiah answered that, I hear you say. Yes, he did, so why won't you?
Yes, he answered the call of God for his day, but what about now, today? Isaiah isn't here now but you are. Jesus' last request was that we (including you) should go into all the world and preach the Gospel. How much clearer do you want to hear it? You may mistake what you hear, but not what you read.
Turn to it again in Matthew 28:19.
Then try making an excuse to God for why you haven't done what it says.
