Genesis 8:21
NEVER AGAIN WILL I DESTROY ALL LIVING CREATURES
That was God's response to Noah's sacrifice.
In fact, that seems to be God's response to all sacrifices. You see He has the right and authority and power to demand our lives for our sins. He was fully justified in bringing the flood.
As the Bible says "The heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked." God says clearly later "The soul that sins deserves death". However, because the heart of God is "love", He was distressed to see all the people dying, He devised an answer - the answer was a sacrifice.
Leviticus is full of the sacrifices God prescribed for His Jewish people to be forgiven. God wants people everywhere to be forgiven. That's why He instituted sacrifices.
Yes, there is a cost to set us free, but He has made it possible. Also the "cost" to us is more in "pride" than "blood". God accepted the death of an animal, in the O.T. for the Jews - pointing to the future. For us, it is the death of His Son.
When God said, "never again will I destroy all living creatures", He could say it because He looked further on in time. His words engulfed the centuries to come, when finally the Supreme Sacrifice would be paid.
The sin of man and its potential through the ever-increasing numbers of mankind and their sin would create a great strain on the animal kingdom! Just imagine it, if we all had to bring sacrifices for all our sins! Poaching would look a very insignificant past time in comparison with the carnage to the animal kingdom required.
However, through the sacrifice of His Son, He not only saved mankind but the animal kingdom too!
God no longer has the need to "again destroy all living creatures".
He "stopped the rot" by sending Jesus to stand in the gap for us and them!
