I have tremendous respect for Paul!
This is one of those things that, I believe, we are very poor at in the church. Oh, we do a lot of preaching, teaching and studying, but I believe we should do a whole lot more training!
Yes, there does have to be that willingness of the "flock" to be trained - which usually is merely a case of sorting out one's priorities. But if as part of the flock I am really serious about God, His Salvation and His Kingdom then there should also be a high level of priority in my life to be trained to be better equipped and more effective in the Kingdom of God.
I shall not forget hearing this verse highlighted to me as a teenager. My Bible teacher on this occasion was an older gentleman with white hair and deaf aid but I can tell you I still got the message. He had learned from Paul. He was determined to train young men so that they would train others. As he pointed out - we are talking of 4 generations here. Paul 1, Timothy 2, his trainers 3, their trainees 4. Paul was looking on to the fourth generation already.
How far are we looking in the church? I don't believe this is to be left to the Bible Schools, Colleges and such others as YWAM and OM.
I believe each one of us in our churches should be "hand picking our Timothys" and inputting into their lives so that the Church of God we leave is more effective than the one, which we entered.
Who is your Timothy? Can I challenge you to find one and invest yourself in them?
