January Topic: OBEDIENCE IS GREATER THAN SACRIFICE |
Of all the things I have had to learn over the length of my lifetime - this is the most important. If we don't get this right, the rest is impossible. So let's spend this first month of the year getting our priorities in the correct order. |
John 3:30
HE MUST BECOME GREATER ... I MUST BECOME LESS
That wasn't just spiritual verbiage! John lived what he said! He knew what his "job" was. To prepare the way of the Lord! He knew that although for a time he was A centre of attraction, he was not THE centre of attraction. He already knew what Jesus would later say, "And I if I am lifted up, I will draw all men unto me."
John the Baptist lifted Jesus so high that when he said, "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world" his disciples left him to follow Jesus.
Today we live in a culture of mega stars. Musicians play to packed audiences, Christians rush to hear the "International speakers". All of us want to shake the hand of the well-known Christian sportsmen or President. The Pope has millions flocking to see him wherever he goes on his travels.
Whatever has happened to the "spirit" of John the Baptist? What happened to the joy and wonder we had when we "met the Lord"? I tell you a greater than John the Baptist IS HERE! God by His Holy Spirit wants you to know that HE IS HERE!
Jesus wants to meet with you right now, wherever you are. Close your eyes and invite Him to come and commune with you. If you do, suddenly "the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace".
Question: Are people attracted to you or "the Jesus" they see in you? John knew that his whole sphere of influence was now over, - for who wants the best man when the Bridegroom arrives? Who wants the servant, when the Master is present? Who wants the page, when the Prince is here? Who wants me, when they can have Jesus?
But can you handle that? Whose Kingdom are you promoting? Yours? Your Pastor's? Your Ministry's? Or God's?
Are you really "Sold Out" to make Jesus greater in your life, or are you just using Him and His name to promote yourself?
Until you and I learn that "He must become greater and I must become less" we will never be fit for service in the Kingdom of Heaven.
