January Topic: OBEDIENCE IS GREATER THAN SACRIFICE |
Of all the things I have had to learn over the length of my lifetime - this is the most important. If we don't get this right, the rest is impossible. So let's spend this first month of the year getting our priorities in the correct order. |
Matthew 6:24
YOU CANNOT SERVE GOD AND MONEY
Lots of people try. Lots of people pretend that they have their finances under control, but if you dig below the surface, money is still what is really controlling them.
How about you? There's a lot of talk these days about being debt free and I wholeheartedly agree that that is a very desirable goal, but if that is my main ambition, I am serving money not servicing it.
Yes, the debtor is the servant of the lender, but the miser, though debt free, is still a servant - a servant to his money. I do not want to "knock" rich people but most are rich for a very good reason. They did not "waste" their money. In order not to "waste" their money they spent considerable time and effort "protecting their investments".
I've known a few rich people who believed God had given them the ministry of giving - and one of those blessed us as a family more than once. They believed that God had specifically entrusted them with riches for the purpose of extending His Kingdom and they were doing just that.
But most of the rich people I have known do not seem to see it the same way! The Churches and Ministries in which I have been involved know and experience what Jesus saw - the widow's mite. Take away the "widow's mite" from the Kingdom of God today and it will grind to a halt!
There is enough money in the Body of Christ today to complete the Great Commission; provide Bibles for all who need them, feed the hungry, clothe the naked and bless the poor.
BUT ... if money is my motivation, if wealth is my aim - I AM NOT serving God. You just cannot have it both ways.
The Church needs your money to fulfil the Great Commission - if you hold back someone is going to go to hell. How do you like that prospect?
Tell me - be honest - who are you serving - God or money?
