February Topic: WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING |
This month I want us to look at why we are still on earth! We are not in Heaven yet - we are destined to go there - and many of us would like to go there quickly (be it to escape the present, be released from the pain experienced on earth or just out of an overwhelming desire to "be with Jesus"). So why can't we go there straight away once we have become a Christian? Maybe there is still something for me to do or become on earth. Let's together have a look at what we are here for... |
Luke 15:7
THERE IS MORE REJOICING OVER ONE SINNER WHO REPENTS
Doesn't God care about the 99?
Well, He seems to care a whole lot less than we do! Proportionally I mean, of course.
It's just that we seem to have misread the script. Jesus said there is more rejoicing in Heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 who don't need to. We seem to spend most of our time worrying about the 99 and so Heaven gets to rejoice 1% of the amount it should!
Why is it, I wonder, that we in the Church spend all our time, energy and programmes trying to get our flock to "stay" and be built up, when, if instead, we sent them out to reach the lost, not only would they get "fired up" by themselves but they wouldn't want to leave the Church as they would feel fulfilled, challenged and a part of the team.
Add to that, the Kingdom of God would come to our towns, cities, neighbourhoods, streets and families, thus changing society. Over and above all that, Heaven would be released into the joy and rejoicing it has been longing for!
So much for the Church, but what about us, as individuals?
Why is it I want the "church" to meet my needs? When I should be "out there" ministering to the needs of others.
If I "gave my life" to reach the lost, then I too, would feel fulfilled; release the anointing of God in my life; see my neighbours and work colleagues "won for the Lord", and know that I had "made the angels rejoice".
As a friend of mine says - "you can pray in Heaven; you can worship in Heaven; you can meditate on the Word in Heaven. The only thing you can do on earth, as a Christian, you can't do in Heaven, is evangelise.
If you don't evangelise you might as well die and be in Heaven!"
He's right!
Let's together work at getting sinners repenting so that the angels can rejoice even more!
