Genesis 45:7
GOD SENT ME AHEAD OF YOU TO SAVE YOUR LIVES
Joseph was a "type" of Christ. He demonstrated certain characteristics that are Christ-like.
I guess the most obvious is that though he "sank" in social status yet God highly exalted him to become "Prime Minister" of Egypt. There were other similarities too - his father adored him; his brothers rejected him; he was misunderstood; he was rejected by "his own", and sold as a slave - 20 shekels of silver. He was falsely accused and found guilty, though innocent. Lastly he forgave those who had so maliciously wronged him.
Here in our verse today he is confronting his accusers - his brothers, but there is no desire for retribution, no thought of "getting even" and not even a hint of bitterness.
Here is a man with character - a man who knows his God - someone who is certain of his total acceptance in God. So no matter what man does - it can never shake his assurance and confidence in God.
It takes considerable strength of Godly character to look at one's life, at all the circumstances through which Joseph had gone, and come out with joy and triumph saying, "God sent me ahead of you to save your lives". What grace and compassion!
He had the right and authority to put people to death; he had the right to restore the injustices he had experienced; he had the opportunity for vengeance but he knew - "vengeance is mine" says the Lord.
He was "sold out" to God. It didn't matter what happened - his life, his future, and his hope were all fully resting in God.
How about you? Are you sufficiently "sold out" to God that you can leave all the misunderstandings, all the injustice, all the hurt and pain, all the disappointment, and all the frustration to your God, knowing that He has got you firmly in the palm of His hand?
One more way Joseph was like Jesus - "God sent me ahead of you - to save your lives!" God sent Jesus ahead of us to save our lives!
Are you living a "type" of Jesus? A "follower" of Jesus?
