SHE HID HIM FOR THREE MONTHS
Never underestimate the role of a mother!
Let me address this meditation to young ladies, wives, mothers and older ladies. Your role in this world is probably one of the most significant roles on earth. Your influence can be eternal. Wouldn't you like that?
Well, it's up to you. It doesn't matter how rich or poor, talented or ignorant, beautiful or plain you feel you are. That is nothing to do with it. It is all about attitude and character.
The Bible is full of records about women who were highly significant. No, not many rich or famous - but people with the right attitudes. Go and study them for yourself. Shiphrah, Puah, Ruth, Esther, Acsah, Deborah, Jael, Abigail, Hannah, Elizabeth, Mary, Anna, - the list goes on and on.
Here we have Jochabed, Moses' mother. She already has one son, when the decree is made that all male babies have to be killed, and here she has another one. What is she to do - give in to the law of the land? No, she convinces herself that her children are children of destiny, not of death. Like a lioness, she is going to give her all for her young cub.
One of our children was born with a double hernia, and we were told "we can't operate for six months - just do all you can to stop him crying as he won't be in any pain". Have you ever tried stopping a baby crying for the first three let alone six months of their lives? (Incidentally, after the operation, we were told he would have been in a lot of pain!)
But how do you "hide" a baby for its first three months? It takes considerable determination, ingenuity and courage. Have you got them?
Then, when she runs out of ideas on how to hide him, she plays her trump hand. Throw yourself on the mercy of a woman's maternal instinct.
Did you know Pharaoh's daughter was a servant of God? Yes, she rescued Moses and eventually through him the Hebrew race! Did you notice, Jochabed's scheming didn't end there - she got herself paid "social security" to bring up her child the way she had always planned - to know the ways of Jehovah and who the Hebrews really were - God's chosen people who would one day be rescued and set free by a deliverer?
(I can't see another one - so it might as well be one of my boys! If not both, and my daughter, Miriam, too!)
Yes - no abortion, no infanticide for one of her children. They are children of destiny.
They might not have been, had it not been for her.

Oh that we had a slice of the spirit of Jochabed. This world would be a different place.
