IN YOUR STRUGGLE... YOU HAVE NOT YET RESISTED TO THE POINT OF SHEDDING YOUR BLOOD
I think this is a very salutary comment.
So many folk who cross my path 'carry on' as if they have! Western civilisation has bred in us a very low pain threshold! We live in the 'instant' society and therefore feel we've 'died' if we haven't received what we wanted yesterday! We get bombarded daily through the media that we are suffering inflation, recession and depression. We get down to our last $10,000 in the bank and start to panic!
Yes, I know there are real people who have to experience real struggles through divorce, bereavement, poverty, homelessness, redundancy and unemployment or long-term sickness - but let's be honest - most of us have to face these things at some time or another and you have to do that whether you are a Christian or not. What we are talking about here is 'suffering for Jesus.' Oh, yes, we'll face struggles and trials of various kinds but, again, let's be honest, as the writer to the Hebrews puts it "you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood."
If you had, you wouldn't be reading this would you?!
When you feel up against it remember those who have. Remember those in some of the African states, some in the South American states, some in the Moslem/Islamic states, some in the European states, some in the Communist states who will or are, even today, shedding their blood for their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Be encouraged - they are not giving up - they will not deny their faith, "because greater is He that is in (them) than he that is in the world."
Take heart, when and if YOU have to, He will give you the strength.
For the time being, let's rise up and walk! Prove we're still alive!
Jesus Christ is worth it!
