Of all the things I have had to learn over the length of my lifetime - this is the most important. If we don't get this right, the rest is impossible. So let's spend this first month of the year getting our priorities in the correct order. |

BECAUSE YOU SAY SO, I WILL LET DOWN THE NETS
Reluctant obedience, I call it! If ever there was a statement that could be "read between the lines" I guess this is one.
"I don't know who you think you are, but I've been fishing for years. I may look stupid or something but when I say we've been fishing all night, I don't mean we just threw the nets over and then started knitting - we were fishing all night. We know where the fish are and they were not there! Furthermore, we fish at night, 'cause that's when we can catch fish - at night, not during the day!"
Of course "we" know better. We have the whole of the Old and New Testaments to tell us who Jesus really is, so in hindsight we would never have been as thick and naive as Peter!
Or are we? How often is our Christian walk "reduced" to - I'll do it - "but only because you've told me to"! We've been a bit like that. We always said I'd never work in London. But Lord asked me to! The Lord asked us to move to Stoke-on-Trent. We thought, "Can anything good come out of Stoke-on-Trent"?
However, each time, we were thrilled that we had been obedient - but I must admit we were a bit reluctant in the beginning. Then He asked us to move from Christchurch N.Z. to Auckland. Again - who wants to live in Auckland? We now enjoy it very much!
Then He asked me to give up working with Radio Rhema Inc to be part of the Pastoral & Administration team of a Church. I said I wasn't interested at first - and I'm still waiting to find out why I agreed!
But, I've let down the nets! May I encourage you? If God tells you to do something - do it cheerfully and at once. Don't rationalise it, as so often, what God asks us to do is "outside" our experience.
Let Him widen your experience level and take you all the way through the course He has planned and prepared for you.
