October Topic: Grace |
As it is not until we have a deep appreciation of what GRACE is and means, that we really come into the full liberty in Christ that we have been purchased to experience, let's take this month to explore some of its depths and treasures. |
Romans 5:15
HOW MUCH MORE DID GOD'S GRACE AND THE GIFT THAT CAME BY THE GRACE OF THAT ONE MAN, JESUS CHRIST, OVERFLOW TO THE MANY
Paul starts - The gift is not like the trespass.
What Jesus did is not the same as what Adam did.
In one sense it was diametrically opposite. By Adam's 'one' sin - at the Fall - every member of the human race has become sinful. That 'one act' has had the effect on us, however, that not only do we have a sinful nature, but prove it by being constantly disobedient and independent from God. Selfish and wilful.
Again as the Bible says "the heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked." We don't have to train our children to be naughty or disobedient - that comes naturally. Why? Because of the Fall - the trespass of the one man Adam.
But the gift is not like the trespass.
Jesus doesn't just forgive and cleanse my sinful nature - He forgives all my sins. My open sins, my secret sins, my deliberate sins, my accidental sins and my unintentional sins. He forgives my sins of commission as well as my sins of omission. The things I shouldn't have done and did, and the things I should have done but didn't. He forgives my past sins, my present sins, my future sins - and all the others I haven't mentioned! As the old hymn goes "They can all forgiven be."
No! The grace is not like the trespass. The grace is also a 'gift.' Given freely by the one Man Christ Jesus to all and particularly to each one who calls on His name in repentance with a contrite heart.
The gift came through the one Act - the Supreme sacrifice of the Holy Lamb of God and flows out to us to cover all and everyone of us and all and everyone of our sins.
Isn't that something to get excited about?
