THEY DID NOT LOVE THEIR LIVES SO MUCH AS TO SHRINK FROM DEATH
The Blood of the Lamb is our Authority!
So satan cannot harm us - we are saved from hell - the second death. The 'End' that Jesus warned us of. The word of our testimony silences the critics, because what can they say to change what we know to be fact. We overcome all criticism, all doubting, all misrepresentation, all humiliation, all jeering, and insults by the word of our testimony.
But yes there is a cost. 'They did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.' No, not everyone appears to be called to endure this test. So many of us are very privileged and have not been tested in this way - but many have. And they, like Jesus, 'set their faces like a flint', - they would not turn back - they would not deny - they would overcome. Maybe they were already dead.
As Paul said "I die daily." It takes the sting from death if we are already dead to this world. "Fear not those who can harm the body but rather He would can destroy your soul" said Jesus. We are never to fear the temporary - only the Eternal. The Eternal God and eternal separation from Him. Are we going to overcome? How can I even dare to address this issue when I haven't been asked to 'pay the price'? I can't.
I can only say what I know of Father. He has promised that we will never be called to bear something that He does not grant us the grace to bear. Stephen, as he was stoned, seemed neither 'human nor himself' as he was able to say to his murderers, - "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." That is super human.
Where did it come from? He overcame by the Blood of the Lamb, the Word of his testimony, and that he did not love his life so much as to shrink from death.
What about us? Will we be prepared to pay that price? If we are afraid of dying for Christ, we can at least begin by living for Jesus!
Yes, please Lord, by Your Grace and through Your Strength - make us overcomers too.
