This month I want us to look at why we are still on earth! We are not in Heaven yet - we are destined to go there - and many of us would like to go there quickly (be it to escape the present, be released from the pain experienced on earth or just out of an overwhelming desire to "be with Jesus"). So why can't we go there straight away once we have become a Christian? Maybe there is still something for me to do or become on earth. Let's together have a look at what we are here for... |

AND YOU WILL BE MY WITNESSES
There it is again. No choice in the matter. You WILL be my witnesses! (Whether you like it or not)
I do believe what Jesus says is true, though - you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.
I also think that should be a good test. If you have difficulty being a witness for Jesus, then you should ask yourself - has the Holy Spirit come on me? Maybe He hasn't.
Maybe you've tried so often and yet if you are real you know its all been in your own strength and not in the power of the Holy Spirit. You long to relax and just let "Jesus do it" but you don't know how.
I have some good news for you. You need to receive the Holy Spirit. Right now stop everything else and come before God. If you know Jesus as your Saviour, He wants to give you His Holy Spirit. You need to be baptised just as John said.
After you have read this, get into a quiet place alone, kneel down before God, lift your hands up to God in an attitude of receiving and ask Him to baptise you in His Holy Spirit. Start thanking Him; believe He, the Holy Spirit, has come into your life and let Him use your voice and lips to praise God and witness for Him.
What about those of you reading this who know you are baptised in the Holy Spirit? Are you enjoying the experience? Don't you love the relationship you have with God and the excitement you get from worshipping Him, spending time with Him and His Word!
Great, carry on doing so, but listen - you will receive power ... to be my witnesses. The Power and Presence of the Holy Spirit is not just to "bless you" but that you might be a blessing to others.
Don't tell me you are baptised in the Holy Spirit if you aren't being a passionate witness for Jesus Christ!
