This month I want us to look at why we are still on earth! We are not in Heaven yet - we are destined to go there - and many of us would like to go there quickly (be it to escape the present, be released from the pain experienced on earth or just out of an overwhelming desire to "be with Jesus"). So why can't we go there straight away once we have become a Christian? Maybe there is still something for me to do or become on earth. Let's together have a look at what we are here for... |
Matthew 28:18-19
ALL AUTHORITY IS MINE ... THEREFORE GO
The Armed Forces have a policy: Obey the last command until you receive a new one.
Jesus' last command to us is "Go!" As the phrase goes - which letter don't you understand!
Tell me, why is it so few Christians "actually" "GO" today?
As Keith Green sang - "it should be the exception for us to stay". And yet so few Christians "go".
Is it that they haven't heard Jesus request? Is it they don't believe it? Is it they want to be deliberately disobedient? Or what is it?
Maybe I can help you have a personal rethink.
Let's just have one more look at the passage.
What is the heart of God?
All through scripture, as we have seen, God has blessed us that we might be a blessing to others. God has always wanted all men everywhere to come back into relationship with Him. Jesus came to earth to make it possible, spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. He then says to His disciples - "Go and make disciples of all nations."
That's God's heart cry - disciples of all nations. We have been blessed - so go now and bless others - tell them the Good News so that they can go and tell others, too.
How long should it take to tell the whole world? As long as it takes you, me and everyone else "to go".
What other reason is there for a Christian's existence?
Not only does Jesus say, "go", but He also prefixes it with something worth knowing before you set out - ALL AUTHORITY IS MINE!
What blessings we miss if we don't "go". We miss the blessing of seeing others become disciples. We miss being obedient to Jesus' last command. We miss flowing in the heartbeat of God. We miss experiencing the Authority of Jesus, and the power of The Holy Spirit working through our lives.
If you want to experience the outworking of the Authority of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit flowing through your life - "go and make disciples of all nations."
