October Topic: Grace |
As it is not until we have a deep appreciation of what GRACE is and means, that we really come into the full liberty in Christ that we have been purchased to experience, let's take this month to explore some of its depths and treasures. |
Romans 6:1
SHALL WE GO ON SINNING THAT GRACE MAY INCREASE?
God forbid!
Let's kill this one dead right here. The followers of Jesus should live as Jesus lived - in total obedience to Father! There is no other way. We are held accountable by God for all we do in this body, and particularly after accepting Jesus Christ His Son as our Saviour. Why?
Because He promises to send us His Holy Spirit to live within us. To start the sanctification process, to make us more and more like Jesus day by day as we let Him have increased control of our lives.
The Holy Spirit also convicts us of sin, so we may shy away from it, or if it's too late, or we ignore His prompting to come back and repent and return to living as Jesus did. Not only that, but the Holy Spirit is God's power within us, giving us the strength to overcome temptation and evil with good.
However, the truth surely is that it is not until we are saved and allow the Holy Spirit to shine the light of God's truth into our hearts and lives, that we truly begin to see how sinful and wretched we were, and are.
We don't need to go on sinning, but we do need to go on repenting until the life of Jesus shines through us, and until in some small measure we reflect the likeness and love of our beloved Saviour, Master and Lord.
Since for us who are saved, to sin is to slap Christ Jesus in the face whilst He is still hanging helplessly on the Cross through love for us, surely anything that would cause such pain, anguish, disappointment and sadness should become increasingly abhorrent to us.
Jesus died; He bore the penalty of our sin, rebellion and selfish independence out of unconditional love for us. Surely that draws from even the most hardened or callous amongst us, a heart full of gratitude and love, whereby we shun what would cause Him pain.
Every sin we commit causes Jesus anguish and pain. How then, can we continue to do it?
No, rather let us fine tune our thinking and our lives so all that we do today and everyday from this moment on causes not grief and pain, but joy and pleasure to the heart of our God and to His Son who gave His all for us that we might go free!
So stop... before you start!
