June Topic: FAITH (for without faith it is impossible to please God)

This month let's have a look at how we can please God and at the same time experience the dynamic power of God which will make our Christianity very exciting and totally contagious!

Hebrews 11:13

THEY ADMITTED THAT THEY WERE ... STRANGERS

I'm not into the word "alien"; it has been usurped and has bad connotations.

But I like the word "strangers". An alien is, however, nearer the mark though. Not only were they aloof and separate from those with whom they lived - they were foreigners. They admitted that they belonged to another planet, another world, another Kingdom.

I think this area is one of the hardest for us to get right. The words of Keith Green "No Compromise" still echo in my ears, and yet as I look around me I see it everywhere.

It's healthy, wise and socially acceptable now to abstain from smoking and alcohol but if that is the sum total of my Christian walk, then I have dreadfully missed the mark. If my Christianity is only shown by my disassociation with everyone who is not a Christian - I'm a hermit not a Christian. On the other hand, if I do act, speak and move exactly like everyone else, I am no witness at all.

So what are the guidelines? Because in a lot of ways we are all different and what is acceptable to me may not be acceptable to you and vice versa? I believe we have to follow and copy Jesus. He was in the world but not of it. But what does that mean?

I believe there are some keys...

a) If after I have lived my life today, there is nothing significantly different from what a non-Christian would have, could have done - I've missed out, and so has God and the unsaved.

b) If I find at the end of the day I haven't talked to or spent time with God - I've missed it.

c) If I find it difficult to talk about God to other Christians I meet - I've missed it.

d) If at the end of the week I have not spent time with a non-Christian trying to build a relationship - I've missed it.

e) If people can swear, blaspheme and tell dirty jokes in my presence and not sense any impropriety - I've missed it.

f) If I can stay at their parties to the end and not feel out of place - I've missed it.

g) If seeking, lonely, hurt, rejected or outcast unchurched people don't naturally turn to me for love, acceptance and help - I've missed it.

Are you a stranger or do you compromise?

We don't like check-ups too much, do we? But we have to be honest sometimes, don't we - especially with God?

Maybe we need to come back here once a month to make sure we are keeping on track. You never know, the Kingdom of God may come to earth and Jesus' Return come even sooner!
