(ABRAHAM) CONSIDERED HIM FAITHFUL WHO MADE THE PROMISE
Naivety in the Christian walk is essential.
So many try to be 'extra' spiritual and end up complicating what God designed to be simple. The Gospel is not the prerogative of the intellectuals; it is the prerogative of the poor in spirit. There have been more problems in the Christian church from so-called theologians than ever caused by the simple layman.
Jesus came to the people and found acceptance. It was the religious leaders that rejected Him first.
Abraham adopted a simple approach. If God has said it - then it will happen. Even if God promises the impossible He is the one who specialises in the impossible. (You can guarantee it'll happen!) Oh yes, Abraham did at first try and help God by using Hagar - but God is even bigger than our mistakes. Not only did He reconfirm His promise, but He said His promise would also rest on Ishmael. He, too, became a father of nations.
But Abraham held on and waited and at the 'right time' Isaac was born. He kept believing in being the father of multitudes of descendants even though he only had one son. He didn't see the multitudes in the natural - he only saw Isaac. (Apart from the six born to Keturah and Ishmael - through Hagar). But by faith he "saw" the promise of God fulfilled. He accepted the spiritual in place of the natural.
That is what the Christian life is really all about. Living in the spiritual, while walking in the natural. God said it - I believe it - that settles it. Simple isn't it? Don't complicate what God has made simple.
