FOR THE TRUMPET SHALL SOUND
That's a promise!
There's something special about a trumpet, isn't there? I'll never forget one service I took - it seemed right to sing "When the saints go marching in" and I asked one of the young people from our Church to go up into the balcony, without anyone knowing, and when we were about to sing the hymn I got him to do a trumpet fanfare. The effect was electric! It was as if this was indeed the trump of God summoning us into His Presence.
The trumpet has been used in battle for centuries, sometimes for retreat, sometimes for advance. The Bible also says that the trumpet needs to sound a clear sound, so that people know what is happening. The warhorse recognises the trumpet, as does the infantry and the cavalry. The Israelites used it too - think of Gideon.
Listen to an orchestral piece and suddenly the trumpet is invited in and a distinct edge is added to the composition. I have said for years that every Church orchestra/band needs a trumpet. There is something about a trumpet, particularly if it is played well. The vibration goes right up your spine! It gives a totally unique and added dimension to the music.
I think we also need to have it, so we will recognise it when it announces the arrival of The King of kings! Coming from England, I'm used to hearing the Trumpet Voluntary or Fanfare that is played before the entrance of Her Majesty the Queen. We all stand in expectation of seeing Her Royal Majesty. That is exciting and awe-inspiring, but let me tell you this; it pales into total insignificance in comparison to what is before us.
THE TRUMPET SHALL SOUND.
When in that moment, in that split second, we shall be changed. We will fly like a bird and this earthly existence will dim into darkness as the glory and the light shine in all their brilliance around us as we are caught up heavenwards.
Yes, we will be changed and leave behind our earthly existence.
But there is something even more ... the trumpet shall sound and we shall see HIM - His Divine Royal Eternal Omnipotent Majesty - Jesus Christ King of all kings and Lord of all lords.
