April Topic: CHRIST'S RESURRECTION |
This is what sets Christianity apart from all other religions. You cannot build up a lasting meaningful relationship with someone who is dead! That is why Christianity is NOT a religion. We have a unique relationship with God's One & Only Son who is Alive today and for evermore. That is a meaningful relationship! Come; let's remind ourselves about what happened... |
1 Corinthians 15:49
SO SHALL WE BEAR THE LIKENESS OF THE MAN FROM HEAVEN
What a glorious prospect that is!
That is why I prefer the term eternal life to everlasting life. You talk about everlasting life to most people and they will say "no thanks". They've had enough of this one - they would hate it to carry on forever and forever. I must admit I wouldn't be too excited either.
But eternal life - now you're talking. That's a whole new dimension. I can't live eternal life without there being a change and a change for the better! Eternal is not just everlasting. Yes, it is everlasting - it does go on and on and on forever, but there's more to it - it is of a different kind.
I am not naturally eternal. Eternal things come from "somewhere else" completely. It is totally outside my scheme of reference. So where does it come from? It comes from "the man from heaven"! The man from heaven is the eternal Son of the eternal Father God. He is "other worldly".
Just as my life changes to some degree as soon as I become a Christian, because the Holy Spirit comes in to take up residence and impart that seed of eternal life, so at the Great Resurrection, I will bear the likeness of the Man from Heaven in all its fullness.
Until that time, we go through a process called sanctification. It's an eternal process energised by the Holy Spirit. The more I allow the Holy Spirit to take over control of my life; change my life so it is more Biblical, God conscious and Christ honouring, I begin to be more conformed to the image of the Son of God.
What does that mean? It means I increasingly bear the likeness of the Man from Heaven - people begin to see more and more of Jesus in me.
Then one day we shall see Him and be like Him forever.
How's His likeness coming on in YOU?
