TODAY IN THE TOWN OF DAVID A SAVIOUR HAS BEEN BORN TO YOU
Ironic isn't it?
Interestingly enough, at Christmas 1995, Bethlehem was handed over to the Palestinians! The sons of Ishmael, not David! I suppose if you are a Jew who doesn't recognise Jesus as the Messiah of God, it doesn't really have much significance. But it does to me! However, while much of the 'commercialism' of today detracts from the 'spirit' of the City of David, nevertheless, the sheer fact of its existence is living testimony to the incarnation of Our God.
When John wrote 'the Word became flesh,' he was not just recording an event; he was describing a momentous development. God had prophesied a Saviour for centuries. His Word was that one was on His way. John was saying, in effect, "that Word that we were longing for; that Word that had promised the Messiah's arrival; THAT WORD became flesh in Jesus. It happened here in David's City."
Yes, the world may look upon Bethlehem as an insignificant hillside village. The world may, in fact be, totally disinterested in a donkey, a mother, and her husband and a little Baby lying in a manger.
BUT TODAY, I BRING YOU GOOD TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY.
TODAY, IN THE CITY OF DAVID A SAVIOUR HAS BEEN BORN TO YOU!
Who did the angels tell? The kings and princes; the rich and noble? No. Some un-named shepherds! Since that day the true shepherds of the people have continued to proclaim the Good News - not for themselves, but for the benefit of all mankind.
During your celebrations, today - take time to hear the angels! Take time to meditate upon their message - it is still the Greatest News of all!
Never forget - there can never be a Pentecost without an Ascension. There can never be an Ascension without a Resurrection (An Easter Sunday). There can never be an Easter Sunday (Resurrection) without a Calvary. There can never be a Good Friday (Calvary) without a Christmas (Incarnation, Virgin Birth).
Furthermore you can't have a Second Coming without an Advent (first coming).
Hear the Good News once more - it is fact not fiction:
A SAVIOUR HAS BEEN BORN TO YOU
in the City of David.
Just as surely as THAT IS TRUE, so is all the rest, and so is His Second Coming!
Go tell the Good News to someone today, who has never heard it before!
