February Topic: WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING

This month I want us to look at why we are still on earth!

We are not in Heaven yet - we are destined to go there - and many of us would like to go there quickly (be it to escape the present, be released from the pain experienced on earth or just out of an overwhelming desire to "be with Jesus").

So why can't we go there straight away once we have become a Christian?

Maybe there is still something for me to do or become on earth.

Let's together have a look at what we are here for...

Acts 8:5

PHILIP PROCLAIMED CHRIST

A man with a mission.

Here's the outworking of Matthew 28! Philip was "scattered", but being the man he was he couldn't keep quiet so he goes to Samaria and proclaims Christ.

"You shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria". Yes, Philip goes to Samaria.

But the Jews have no dealings with Samaritans! So what is Philip doing here?

I wonder what he had first thought when he heard those words of Jesus. Did he get a thrill in his spirit, a lump in his throat, an extra heartbeat or two? Or had he said (like me) I'll go anywhere but ... only to find that was exactly where God wanted him to be!

I have a sneaking feeling it could have been the latter (probably only because I can relate to the feeling having been there once or twice myself!). However, we don't read that he said, "Here am I, send one of the other disciples!"

Furthermore, the account reads as if he wasted no time in preaching Christ. This was just after Stephen's martyrdom, the ensuing persecution in Jerusalem and Philip, totally "irresponsibly" it seems, starts preaching Christ in Samaria.

And what happens? Crowds came, he performed miraculous signs, demons fled, paralytics and cripples were healed - so there was great joy in that city.

Oh that's nice isn't it! How "nice" for Philip. Of course, it would never happen here!

That was a special time and a special place. We've moved on from there!

Where to? The wilderness?

Tell Philip what you've just told me. What is his response?

"Special? - Oh no, I don't think so...

- You see it always happens when I proclaim Christ!"
