August Topic: Security, Significance and Self-worth

We all need to come back to basics from time to time and what better time to do it than now.

Let's spend this month together reminding ourselves of those important issues which make up some of the foundation of our Christian relationship with God and our walk with Him.

Revelation 2:7

TO HIM WHO OVERCOMES...I WILL GIVE THE RIGHT TO EAT FROM THE TREE OF LIFE

EPHESUS - (Overcoming - legalism & religiosity)

I'm going to end this month and section looking at the promises to the Overcomers mentioned in the Letters to the Churches in the Book of John's Revelation.

In our instant society, we in the Church have got hoodwinked.

Jesus did not say "Blessed are those that pray, for they shall receive their requests immediately." He did not say, "Blessed are My followers for their path is easy and well-lit." Nor did He say "Blessed are those who claim to have faith for all things, for they shall receive them at once." Yes He did say, "Take My yoke upon you, for My yoke is easy and My burden is light." But He also said "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me!"

Here in Revelation, Jesus says by His Spirit "To him who overcomes..." What does it mean to overcome? Well, you can't overcome unless it has come against you! You can't overcome unless you have something to overcome. You don't overcome by avoiding the issue. You don't overcome by hiding your head in the sand. You don't overcome by the abdication of your responsibilities. You don't overcome unless you experience hardship and opposition. You don't overcome unless you hang in there when everything conspires to make you give up.

The Church at Ephesus had to overcome their legalism and religiosity. They had to overcome their pride and self-satisfaction. They had to overcome their arrogance - and if they didn't, they would not be a church any more. They had to find again their first love for Jesus.

But to those who overcame.... Wow! The right to eat from the Tree of Life in the Paradise of God. That which has been denied us because of the Fall is restored to us once more through Christ at last. When you eat from the Tree of Life you remain in that state forever. (That is why Adam & Eve were kept from eating it after having been disobedient to God. They would have remained in their fallen state forever without any possibility of salvation.) These overcomers get into the Paradise of God - the New Heaven and New Earth and there it is, the Tree of Life and they stay there! The overcomers have been saved through grace and now are fit to live forever with Jesus in His Paradise.

Isn't it worth overcoming? Isn't it worth being an overcomer?

I know, like me, you can't wait to read all the promises - because they are ALL for us too!

Hold on! Determine today that regardless - YOU by His grace will be an overcomer too!
