September Topic: Perseverance |
The Word says "To him who overcomes..." The Christian walk is NOT easy, so we need to be people of determination, knowing that in the end, WE WILL WIN! This month we will discover some words of comfort and encouragement to help us on our pilgrimage. |
James 1:3
TESTING DEVELOPS PERSEVERANCE
Your neighbours want to see that you are different!
Being human, like them, we all face the same trials and testings - the same illnesses, financial strains, bereavement and failure. But 'they' (and God) expect us to be different. Why? - Because we have the dynamic of the Power of God in our lives and they don't.
What is the point of proclaiming that we are Christians, if our lives aren't any different from the unsaved and unchurched? The people, the world wants to see, are not those who have everything easy - but who go through the hard times, the constant testing they have, but come out the other side victorious and 'ten feet tall'. We can all buckle under pressure - but that isn't what God desires. He desires that we overcome!
Our destiny is to reign with Jesus - How, on earth, are we to prepare for that? Through testing! Testing that occurs to make us people of God - conformed to the image of Jesus. He endured all things - He encourages us to follow Him. Why? Because it develops character and God is far more interested in our character than in our convenience or comfort. The people I like to be around have overcome. Their lives haven't been easy, but God has been faithful. God hasn't always 'come to the party' when they wanted Him to, but He has always 'come through' in the end.
Oh yes, there will have been those extra tough times when life doesn't make sense. I've gone beyond the 'end of my tether'; I've felt heaven as brass with no eyes, ears or heart. I've reasoned God was uncaring through silence.
And yet the 'faith' that He is a good God, He is love, He does know, and He does care has never left me. He has proved Himself to me, so very many times, and in the end, there is always the peace and brilliance of His Presence. Hold on my friend. Your testing is for a purpose.
Not a small one, not an insignificant one, but for the joy that one day having persevered you will become like His One and Only Son!
