SET FREE FROM SIN...SLAVES TO GOD
What is freedom?
Unless we get the right answer to this one, we may never recognise it. Quite honestly I believe there are many Christians who don't recognise it. They seem deluded into believing that freedom is a lack of restraint.
We have some neighbours in our road, which is predominantly 'open plan' - without front or side walls or hedges - who have built a brick wall along the front and around each side topped with iron railings and re-enforced with electrically driven, remotely controlled, iron front entrance gates.
They have, no doubt, constructed all that to keep intruders at bay. But, who is behind the iron bars? They have unwittingly created their own prison! They are also, quite obviously, slaves to fear. They may think that they have gained 'freedom' from burglaries - but I doubt it! It surely must be a really inviting challenge to any professional convict - for what can they have inside that is 'worth' all that security?
Freedom comes through knowing that your sins past, present and future are forgiven. Freedom comes through knowing that you are totally unconditionally loved and accepted by your Creator. Freedom comes through knowing that you are a child of God, the King of kings and Lord of lords. From knowing Him as your Heavenly Father and that all the resources of heaven are at your disposal. From knowing that He is your Security, Provider, Protector and Strong Tower.
Freedom comes from knowing that no matter what you do; what job you have; what sort of home you live in; what amount of money you are entrusted with; however much health you enjoy; whatever the colour of your skin; however much food you have to eat; God has a plan and purpose for you. You have a plan and a destiny, not just a life.
If you are set free from sin, you have freedom to become a slave of God - to walk in His ways; to fulfil His calling, to be obedient to His will and to have fellowship with Him daily.
That is what true freedom really is.
