The Word says "To him who overcomes..." The Christian walk is NOT easy, so we need to be people of determination, knowing that in the end, WE WILL WIN! This month we will discover some words of comfort and encouragement to help us on our pilgrimage. |
1 Peter 1:7
THESE HAVE COME... THAT YOU MAY PROVE GENUINE
When Jesus said "I am the Way The Truth and the Life," He was saying, in effect, "I am the One True Reality." I am the Genuine.
The rest are counterfeit! You only really believe what you put into practice, what you live out. Your genuine Christian faith and walk is seen only through your lifestyle not through what is in your knowledge bank. Your life's 'computer' is only a dumb terminal until the specific software programme is activated! You can know it all but if it doesn't 'work' it is sham, hypocrisy and pride. I don't know about you, but I get tired of information being given to me which is inaccurate. Yes, I know I'm fussy and pedantic but I feel if people were more accurate in the first place, I would have to be less fastidious myself!
Interesting that these words come from Peter! The one who was forever putting his foot in it and saying things before thinking. He had come to realise that 'talk and no action' were inconsistent with the claims of Christ. He now knew that we can't 'play games with God' or 'fool God'. He is omniscient - all knowing and all seeing! You have to 'walk the talk'! But he says to his readers - 'O.K., listen up.' "Rejoice in these trials, because they will prove your faith is real and genuine." Not some temporary escapism - no, the true reality.
Your faith is worth more than gold - and if gold is tried to prove that it is genuine, how much more should faith. But more than that - much more than that. Not only will it be proved to be genuine but it will also result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed. We, by hanging in there, by suffering the trials, will in the end, give praise, glory and honour to Jesus Christ. What a privilege! What a calling! Not only is Jesus with us all the time to help us but in the end our lives can bring glory, praise and honour to Him!
May we all prove to be genuine, to His glory!
