WHO CAN SPEAK OF HIS DESCENDANTS? FOR HE WAS CUT OFF FROM THE LAND OF THE LIVING...
I can! I can and you can!
I shall never forget a gentleman speaking on this verse at a church I used to attend in Southern England. He made the point that as this chapter speaks of Jesus so does this verse. Jesus was a single male. He had no wife, no children and so when he died on the cross satan thought he had won a mighty victory in many ways - not the least of which was the fact that Jesus had no children to carry on His Name or His work. "He was cut off from the land of the living". Jesus was dead. "Who can speak as one of His descendants?" Literally no one!
But God's plan was far greater. For as John says "He gave the right to become children of God ... children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God!" Yes, you and I are His descendants by faith, grace and the will of God.
But the challenge is still made to us - "who will speak of His descendants?" Will I? Will you? Because if we don't, He has no natural descendants to do it for Him and in that sense satan was right. It is therefore up to us to make satan wrong! It is up to us to declare the wonder and the privilege of having His God as our Heavenly Father. Having Jesus as our Lord and our "Brother". No one else can do it for him.
Yes, I will speak as one of His descendants. They live throughout the world. No matter where you go - North, South, East or West you will find descendants of the Lamb that was slain. And yes, gathered around the Throne will be representatives of every tribe, people and nation. Every ethnic group will be represented and will "speak as one of His descendants".
How many are there because YOU have spoken as one of His descendants?
How many will be there because YOU WILL speak as one of His descendants - on His behalf?
