MAY THE GRACE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND THE LOVE OF GOD AND THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT BE WITH YOU ALL
Paul's final words in his letters to the Church at Corinth.
Maybe he kept the best until last - maybe this summarises all that he has said so far - and maybe it is more than a prayer - a constant desire for his life and our lives.
The Grace of the Lord Jesus is the initiating factor, which enabled us to know the Love of God; who upon accepting us into His family sends His Holy Spirit to indwell us - take up residence - so that we may have constant fellowship with God and one another. This surely is the 'glue' of Christianity. It reminds us how we started, where we are now and how we stay there!
John Newton, the converted slave trader, got it right, didn't he? Let's have another look at his evergreen hymn:
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.T'was grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved.
